Kuala Lumpur, 26th May 2015 – Express Rail Link Sdn. Bhd. (ERL) clinched the coveted title of North Star Air Rail Link of the Year once again at the Global AirRail Awards 2015 held on 21st May in Toronto, Canada.
This is the third time that ERL has received the recognition as a leader amongst its global peers. The first was in 2012 while the second win was in 2014. This year ERL also won the Marketing Campaign of the Year award for its KLIA2 Service Extension launch campaign. Present to accept both awards were the Chief Executive Officer of ERL, Noormah Mohd Noor and the Chief Executive Officer of ERL Maintenance Support Sdn Bhd (E-MAS), Thomas Baake.
“This is truly amazing and a great honor. Winning it again this year is definitely a boost and will certainly motivate us to provide even better services to our passengers. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our passengers,” said Noormah.
In spite of the challenges that the travel industry faced last year, ERL has persevered and achieved very significant outcomes since the extension of its services to KLIA2 in May 2014. An integrated marketing campaign to promote the service extension was executed in phases across multiple media platforms. Supported by good stakeholder participation, the efforts contributed towards an overall ridership growth of 32% last year, the highest in its 13-year history.
ERL will continue to develop the business through targeted improvements and response to fundamental changes. In order to accommodate the growing number of passengers, new trains have been ordered and are expected to be delivered progressively from May 2016.
“I would also like to thank the ERL & E-MAS team for their hard work and commitment. I hope that we are able to continue delivering exceptional service that is attractive to our passengers in the years to come,” Noormah added.
The Global AirRail Awards is organised by Global AirRail Alliance (GARA), a London-based industry organisation joining rail operators, airport, airlines and suppliers from around the world. Judges for the awards are professionals in the air and rail industries.
“It has been a great year for the global air-rail business and we are especially happy to see so many interesting and diverse projects shortlisted for the awards. The goal of the Global AirRail Awards is to recognise the best in air-rail, and to build awareness of the many projects and partnerships that are being developed to create a truly seamless intermodal travel experience,” Milda Manomaityte, Director of GARA said.
