Kuala Lumpur, 7th November 2013: Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) welcomes Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates who will join a select group of international airlines in offering city centre check-in service at KL City Air Terminal (KL CAT) in KL Sentral from today.
The airline recently launched its double daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Abu Dhabi, which saw an increase of over 30% in capacity to enable it to continue fostering the growth of tourism and trade between the two countries. The opening of its check-in counter in KL Sentral today will bring added convenience to the airline’s passengers.
In her speech during the launch ceremony, Noormah Mohd Noor, Chief Executive of ERL said: “We hope the opening of its check-in counter at the KL CAT will help reduce the congestion at the KLIA. Etihad Airways passengers will have the convenience of checking in as early as 4 hours before their flight departure but not later than 2 hours prior to. Once relieved of their checked baggage, they can have the peace of mind and take the KLIA Ekspres train to the airport on their own time, and still have time to squeeze in last minute duty-free shopping at KLIA.”
Etihad Airways’ General Manager Malaysia Dave Walsh said the new service was aligned with Etihad Airways’ focus on delivering a seamless travel experience for its guests.
“The launch of our new check-in counter at KL Sentral will make it easier and more convenient for our guests to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Etihad Airways’ global network. More than one million passengers have travelled with Etihad Airways to and from Malaysia since we commenced flights in January 2007 and this new service ensures that our guests are always offered a seamless travel experience with Etihad Airways – both in the air and on the ground.”
Noormah added: “We have had zero incidents of pilfered or lost checked baggage since the day we started the service. Our consistently maintained on-time train availability of 99.7% put us on a par with, if not better than, other airport express and high-speed trains worldwide.”
Etihad Airways will have access to their own systems through SITA’s AirportConnect CUTE platform which offers end-to-end Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity from host to the airport desktop. Malaysia Airlines has been appointed as its ground handling agent in KL Sentral.
At the launch event, Noormah presented KLIA Ekspres Single Trip tickets to Etihad Airways passengers who were amongst the first to use the new city centre check-in service. The free tickets for the first 20 Etihad Airways passengers are offered on first-come, first-served basis daily from 7th to 16th November 2013. All Etihad Airways passengers checking in at the KL CAT also stand a chance of winning 2 Return Coral Economy Class tickets on Etihad Airways in a lucky draw which runs until 31st December 2013.
